Destiny: The Taken King - Lost to Light and Regicide
Posted by

We are nearing the end of The Taken Kings Story missions and we start this part with a trip to the moon to collect part of Crota's soul from the crystal destroyed in The Dark Below questline. All seems to be going well, a little too well. Bungie throw in a new twist to the end of the misison that shows that they are prepared to turn Destiny tried and tested formula on its head in order to make a memorable mission.
For the final part, I have become ascendant and its time to enter the rupture and have word with Oryx. Let's see if we can sort this out peacefully without resorting to a massive battle and tonnes of gunfire and explosions... Probably not!
Spoilers - I won! Now once again I am at the end game of another Destiny expansion, but this time its different. I have been bombarded with new questlines, strikes and then there is the Dread Patrol. Oryx's dreadnaught has opened up as a new patrol area and is full of secrets to be unlocked. Destiny seems to have finally cottoned on to the content problem and is a much better game for it.

Destiny: The Taken King - Cayde's Stah and Oryx's Dreadnaught

Continuing with my playthrough of the new Destiny expansion, The Taken King and its on to the next mission. Hunter Vanguard, Cayde needs me to get the stealh crive he hid in the Cosmorome. The only snag its a the top of huge space rocket and the Fallen and the Taken are after it as well. Sounds like an average day in Destiny then.
Once again, Cayde's Stash is a brilliant example of bungie getting back to the epicness of Halo. This mission takes to the higest point you can get in the Cosmodrome, and fight all the way up to. There is Fallen and Taken to contend with and a boss battle at the top. Brilliant mission!
So now I have a stealth ship, what better time to sneak aboard Oryx's command ship The Dreadnaught. What could possibly go wrong?
Ok so this actually two missions, but they are so good I could not stop playing. The first mission sees the plan to infiltrate Oryx's Dreadnaught go spectactuarly wrong. This leaves to explore this massive warship full of Taken. It doesn't take long before you discover a Cabal ship crashed into the side of the Dreadnaught. Cabal soliders are fighting off the Taken as a last ditch effort avenge the attack on their base in Phobos. The good news they brought a wartank with them and you need to stop it before you can enter their ship.
The next mission sees you weaken the cabal forces, so that you enter their ship and see what intel they have on the massive Dreadnaught and if they know where Oryx is. Once again Bungie have thrown in a large does of Halo into this mission which starts off with you in the middle of a large scale firefight between two factions both of which wnat you dead more than each other.
The Taken king is shaping up to be the best content for Destiny so far... Stay tuned for more gameplay!

Destiny: The Taken King - New Gameplay

After an unexpected 18GB patch download, that PSN handled pretty well for a change. It was time at about 22:00 last night to get stuck into the new Destiny expansion. I have mentioned in my last post about the many changes brought in for year two. The major change for The Taken King expansions is something that was missing from year one. That feature is storytelling!
Destiny: The Taken King Out Today!

Destiny... Its been quite a first year. After getting hooked to the Alpha and subsequent Beta, I was desperate to get mu hands on the full experience on 9th September last year. It didn't let me down and Destiny became my game of choice for almost 6 months, which is incredible for a gamer like me. I went through the main story, then hit level 20. I even persevered with the Light system and managed to grind my way to high enough level to try out the Vault of Glass. I got halfway through with the fireteam I was with first time and it took another couple of months to be able to find the time to retry it.
I bought the expansion pass for both The Dark Below and House of Wolves. I eagerly waited for the content that the first expansion was going to bring. Then came the day it came out and I finished it in a hour and a half. This was the moment where I knew Destiny and I had a problem.

Little Gamers Update - Looking back at 2014

So 2015 is upon us all and the gaming industry is looking ahead as to what will define 2015. Rather late to the party, I wanted to take a look back at 2014 an what it meant to me and what games shone out in 2014.
2014 was the year I jumped on to the Next Gen train and have not looked back. Since getting a PlayStation 4 in March, I have played 60 PS4 titles! Not a bad amount for a new console in its first year. The Vita is still a wonderful piece of kit andhas never been far from my side and is still home to some of my best gaming moments of the year. The PS3 keeps moving around the house, as soon as I give it to the Little Gamers to play on something comes up on PS Plus that makes me take right back into my gaming den.
So what were my highlights of the year, which game swill go down as the most memorable, fun and sometimes broken? Indulge me as I take a look at my own Games of 2014 list.

Destiny - The Greatest Grind
Posted by
Mark
Destiny has been in my life now for two months and I thought now was a good time to write about the game. Hopefully by now everyone knows what Destiny is. In case you don't know though. Destiny is a Sci-fi Shooter with MMO elements, from the makers of Halo. The main story of it is well... erm. Ok so theres this sphere thing on mars, thats not on mars anymore it came to earth. On ther way here though it made all these planets liveable on. The Traveller (Sphere thingy) has enemies, called the Darkness and they have come to kill it, but mankind has stepped up to defend it, but we are losing the battle. Thats where you come in! Although you have been dead for long time, but now you are alive but dont ask too many questions about that.
Ok! I think everyone has had a moan about the lack of story telling in Destiny. It is kind of all over the place and no amount of Peter Dinklage spouting in ear about Hive Minds and Kells is going to help it. At least Bungie have made sure that this a possibilty of a Computer AI gone mad storyline. We all liked that one in Halo. As well as storyline issues, there have been alot of complaints about the content and the lack of it. In the run up to release, marketing people gave the impression that you would be travelling between the planets in the solar system with battles taking place in a wide variety of locations. In the final game we got four planets with about six or seven story missions in each. A couple of harder co-op missions called strikes on each planet and the Vault of Glass, a six man Raid on Venus. Some would say that this isnt the game that Bungie promised.
Destiny sure has its fair share of problems right now. So how come I havent stopped playing it for the last two months with every spare moment I have. Its because with Destiny, Bungie have hit upon the same thing they did with Halo. 30 seconds of fun and repeat. The mechanics of the game are perfect whether it be combat, movement or traversal. The appeal of boost jumping into a mob of enemies and shooting and meleeing them just doesnt wear out.
Having reached the level cap of 20 about 2 weeks after the game launched. I have been getting my grind on. The end game of Destiny allows you to reach level 30, but purely based on the Light rating of the armour you wear. This means getting the rarest helms, chest, gauntlets and leg armour and upgrading it to the maximum. I have made it to level 28 without actually completing the raid.
So every day I have been logging on to the game, heading to the social hub, The Tower. Collecting the daily bounties, little missions that vary from killing a specific target to earning 9000 xp without dying. These bounties improve your Vanguard reputation, which earns you benefits and gets you legendary items. Then there is daily mission to do, which earns you the materials to upgrade these legendary items. On top of this there is the weekly strike and nightfall, much harder versions of story strikes with high end enemies and high end rewards. It is all very repetitive, but it never gets dull or boring. Every day I log back in, meet up with some people in and go shoot alien bad guys and have fun.
In a few weeks the first expansion is released adding new story missions, new strikes and new raids. I can see myself playing Destiny for a long time to come. After writing something a few months back about not ever sticking with a game for the long run. It looks like I have found the game I was looking for.

Little Gamers Update - The one where I forgot to post

Erm, Hi! Remember me? We used to hang out a few months back... Yeah that's right, I would write about gaming and you all had to just read my opinion and accept them. Guess what, I'm Back!
So what excuse have I got this time or letting the site slip into almost obscurity. Too much work? Too much home life issues? Nope, for a change it is none of those problems. The reason I haven't written a post for so long is that I have been seriously gaming and having an absolute blast doing so.
