PlayStation Plus Update - August 2014

Yes I know, I missed a month, but with good reason (see my latest Little Gamer Update). To be honest July's offering for PS Plus was was not the greatest. Although that is all going to change today with the August update for PS Plus subscribers. This month sees two exclusive indie titles that I have been looking forward to released for FREE! Two more classic indie titles that most people should already own, a LEGO game for another easy platinum. Oh! and Crysis 3.

Road Not Taken (PS4)

Road Not Taken is a roguelike puzzle game about surviving life’s surprises. Taking the role of a mysterious hooded ranger, you need to explore a forest  after it has been ravaged by a huge storm. Your quest is to find and rescue the children lost in the forest.

The art style is beautiful looking like a dreamlike painting at times. Along with its unique look, Road Not Taken feature the other indie prerequisite...procedurally generated levels. Which always a good thing in my experience. Cannot wait to try this out.

Fez (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)

The now legendary fez, was the passion of Phil Fish, the outspoken indie developer who famously canned Fez 2 and walked away from the game industry after a spat with a Game trailers journalist. Which is a tragic loss because Fez is such an amazing game and I would of paid good money for this sequel. If you have no idea what Fez is, it is she story about Gomez who lives in a 2D world. When Gomez becomes the owner of a mystical cosmic Fez (as you do) he realises that his world is actually 3D and he has the ability to manipulate it.

What follows is a fantastic retro styled platform romp with a great twist and loads of layers to delve into.

Crysis 3 (PS3)

The third installment of Crytek's Nanosuit powered series and one could say it was one entry too many. Crysis was great and the perfect evolution from the original Far Cry. Crysis 2 saw EA wanting to bring the PC phenomenon to consoles and do to that the open world world turned linear. the beautiful jungles turned into the concrete of New York. Crysis 3 carries on i that vein. I personally won't be rushing to play this, but it is a welcome addition to the Instant Games Collection, so that one day I could try it for free.

Proteus (PS3, PS Vita)

Ever wished there was a game that let you just go on a country walk? You have! Well this your lucky day as Proteus is just that game. Set on a mysterious island, the only objective in the game is to wander the island and discover the secrets it holds. Plus it is also looks like I Dear Esther was a BBC B game. Give it a try, especially if you have had a stressful day.

Metrico (PS Vita)

Metrico is probably one of the Vita's most interesting titles the year. It is a action based puzzle game that is inspired by info graphics and the art form that has evolved into. It's kind of hard to explain and it is easier to see the game in motion. I would describe it as Logans Run on a pie chart. You simply cannot ignore this game and should download it right now.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 (PS Vita)

I hope by now I should not have to explain what a LEGO game is. In case you don't know it goes like this...
Enter (insert franchise) level.
Collect LEGO studs by smashing everything.
Defeat (inner franchise) boss and complete level.
Use LEGO studs to buy more (insert franchise) characters and extras.
Repeat until Platinum trophy unlocks.

This month it is Harry Potter.

So that's the bundle of games you can enjoy this month on PS Plus and thanks to cross buy, Vita owners end up with 4 new games this month. Until next month have fun free gaming!
