PlayStation Plus - July Update

Good news everyone! There are not really any decent new games out until the end of August! That means I have a chance to actually catch up playing some of the PS3 titles I have sat on my hard disk from the instant game collection. Not that I am knocking getting free games every month, but when are you meant to play them all. Bearing in mind that during the month of June, PS Plus subscribers were actually given 7 new titles to download (9 if you have a Vita as well) 4 of those being lengthy adventure games. It seems like a few days ago I was writing last months update, and now the time has come again. July's titles have been announced.

Better sit down, this is going to be Epic.

Yes, Battlefield 3 is joining the instant game collection. DICE/EA COD beater is going to be yours to download for free on 3rd July. Now, what I am about to say is purely my own personal opinion, which I am entitled to have and am no way trying to spark a fanboy war. I think that Battlefield is a superior series to the Call of Duty games. With destructible enviroments, land, sea and air vehicles to dominate the battle and one of the greatest game engines of the current generation. Battlefield 3 is spectacular online and the while the single player might not be up there storyline wise, it certainly kicks all kinds of butt. Did I mention the Jet Fighters. They have Jet Fighters! and Tanks!

Next up is Payday: The Heist, being added to the game collection ahead of the release of its sequel in August. Payday is 4 player co-operative shooter, based around a series of six heists. You play the robbers in this and have to escape through the swarms of armed police that are arrived on scene. Think Left 4 Dead meets Heat.

If all games to could be more like Saints Row: The Third. Where most developers are driving the games to be more realistic and knocking the down the barriers of interactive story telling, it is so refreshing to play a big game that just doesn't take itself or anything seriously at all. Saints Row 3 is an absolute bonkers open playground with everything from car surfing, space fighters, wrestling moves and attacking people with a large purple sex toy. Enjoy the madness now, as early reports that Saints Row 4 makes this game look like a childs tea party.

Once again, Vita owners never fear, as you have two amazing titles to look forward to as well (thats if we can drag you away from Hotline Miami, Out Next week!). First up is the ninja with attitude...

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus is an amazing version of the Sigma version of the original Ninja Gaiden game. It translates perfectly to Vita and is perfect for some mobile slash action. With the series traditional rock hard gameplay and new ninpo along with series of Vita specific improvements, this game deserves a place on your Vita.

In my mind, one of the finest games on the Vita and also the one that no-one bought. Unit 13 is a third person tactical shooter and delivers a sublime experience to the OLED screen. 45 missions, daily challenges and online leaderboards, Unit 13 delivers a top notch game, that keeps on giving.

So that's July and another bunch of top level titles (Microsoft should take note.... Halo 3 isnt really a gift to anyone these days, its 6 years old now). At least I may have some more time to play this month bunch of freebie gaming goodness. See you next month!
