Happy Easter, Everyone!

Easter brings any gamer the ultimate present.... four days to play. So to celebrate this and also because I finished Tomb Raider on Friday, I thought I would use the last of my Birthday gaming to fund to get the Premium Edition of Bioshock infinite. Featuring a collection of code sheets that unlock game enhancements, Playstation 3 exclusive system themes and a digital download of the games soundtrack. Also you get a plastic figure of the handyman and a Murder of Crows keyring, and a beautiful art book. the art book is a god send as I have to settle for looking at that until I can get to the PS3 in a few days.

Anyway, Happy gaming Easter, everyone! Don't eat too much chocolate!

Out Today

I love Autumn! The nights start drawing in. The air has a crispness to it as the days start to turn cold. The trees lose their golden leaves.

Oh and there is always loads of cool games out!

This week is no exception as two of the most surprising games of 2012 go head to head. First up is Dishonored. Arkane Studios steam-punk inspired, stealth, first person game is out. Corvo, is a disgraced Royal bodyguard, framed for the murder of the Empress. Corvo breaks out of prison to exact revenge on the people responsible. How he does though is down to the player. In each level, there are multiple ways to complete the task at hand. For example, if you need to kill a target inside a building, you could take the straight forward combat approach. Fight your way through the front door, killing all who stand in your way until you reach your target. Take the Stealth option, sneaking past all of the guards, listening in to their conversations in order to learn more about the target. Eventually, making your way to target and killing him in a way that looks accidental. Then there is the Supernatural route, using your powers of teleportation, telekinesis and possession to achieve your goal.

Depending on how you tackle each mission will decide how the later missions play out. The more brutal you are, the more chaos spreads throughout the city. Therefore, more guards will be dispatched to protect the people you are after. So tread carefully and cling to the shadows, if you want to survive.

Judging by the reviews that are coming in, Dishonored is looking like a good contender for game of the year. Its my pick of the week, when I get to the game shop at lunchtime today.

Although, though that could change. As this week sees the return of a franchise that has been away for too long. XCOM are back and I don't mean the Fifties inspired UFO FPS that 2K Marin are working on for 2013. No this is the original turn based squad strategy game that we all know and love from the Amiga days. Its back and it is getting the reboot treatment from the makers of Civilisation no less.
You know the drill, send your squad in to deal with the alien invaders. Once the squad defeats them, its back to the XCOM base. The base acts as a early warning centre and research outpost. So get the scientists researching alien technology and won't be long until your squads are kitted out with laser games and jet packs.

The demo I have played is amazing and manages to capture the feel of the original game, whilst moving it forward in to the current generation of gaming. I have to admit, I was very dubious about this coming to consoles, but Firaxis have managed to get the feel right even for the joypad generation.

So what to buy? Well... both to be honest, if you are made of money. I think, Dishonored is my purchase this week, with XCOM having to wait until I have the time to dedicate to it.

Borderlands 2 - The scores are in

The reviews are coming in thick and fast for Borderlands 2 and they all seem to agree that this one kick-ass sequel that improves on the original whilst not betraying the originals gameplay.

A quick glance at Metacritic sees a growing collection of positve reviews. Have a look at some of these below:

The Guardian (5 Stars) - Pandora feels more like an actual place than a virtual battleground, thanks to Gearbox's attention to detail in this game...I mean, when was the last time you cared about the name of any gun manufacturer in any shooter you played recently? Listen, I've played the heck out of the COD: MW titles, and I've used a TAR-21 more times than I care to mention, but I couldn't tell you who manufactured it... The gun-makers in Borderlands 2 don't even exist, for goodness sake, and I'm already brand-loyal to one of them. Full Review

G4 TV (5 out of 5) - Borderlands 2 is a better game than Borderlands in every imaginable way. Scoff at anyone who calls it a v1.5 update; this is really what a sequel should be. At the most basic level, you've got the same great experience that the 2009 game offered, only with much more depth and variety. Full Review

GameTrailers (9.2) - The story in Borderlands 2 is by far the biggest improvement. The humor and over-the-top style that was merely glimpsed in the first game are ever-present here. Strong personalities drive the experience from beginning to end, whether it's Claptrap's sense of self-importance, Tiny Tina's hyperactivity, or Handsome Jack's spiteful annoyance. Full Review

Edge Magazine (9 out of 10) - Borderlands 2 might not develop extensively on its forebear, but it has even greater power to hold you for hours on end, deftly weaving RPG stat development with skill-based play. It's enough to make every decision you make meaningful and fun, and lend the realisation that Gearbox knows more about the fundamentals of the shooter than almost any other developer. Full Review

games(TM) (8 out of 10) - We also take some issue with Borderlands 2's sense of humour. While it's welcome, it draws so frequently on up-to-the-minute memes that it becomes hard to remain immersed in an experience supposedly taking place in the distant future, on a remote planet, and among people who have no reason to understand the significance of an arrow in the knee. Most of it's just not that funny. Full Review

More reasons to be excited about Friday. If you cannot wait that long though you can always play the amazing 8-bit de-make, The Border Lands.

Borderlands 2 - Incoming Wub Wub!

2K games and Gearbox Software announced this week the Borderlands® 2 Deluxe Vault Hunter’s Collector’s Edition and Ultimate Loot Chest Limited Edition. Normally, we here at Two Little Gamers do not condone the Collectors or Limited editions of big games (basically, we can't afford them, as the little gamers steal all the spare cash).

So why are we running this news? Is it a way to secure your cash in order to get a fabulous set of extras on release day?

Is it because the Borderlands® 2 Deluxe Vault Hunter’s Collector’s Edition looks to be a really special deal.

Is it because  the Borderlands® 2 Ultimate Loot Chest Limited Edition contains a really cool replica Loot Chest?

Maybe it's because the just released box art is all kinds of multi-format awesomeness?

Well, yes it's all of those reasons!

Really - we just like to link to the awesome trailer from the game.

For anyone who is interested, the music in the trailer is by the fantastic Nero and the track is called Doomsday.
