PlayStation Plus - August Update

I would like to say that Saints Row the Third is done and that I have conquered Battlefield 3 both single and multi-player, earning Platinum Trophies for everything along the way. Truth is, I haven't. Saints Row 3, I managed to squeeze about a hour into. Battlefield, I have done the prologue and Payday, not even loaded it.

With the likes of The Last of Us (still not completed) and Hotline Miami being released, I don't stand a chance to play the mounting digital mountain of titles the Plus scheme has given me so far. So the last thing I need is another bumper update in August of top quality titles, but that is what we are getting....

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Criterion's best game since Burnout 3, Need for Speed: Most Wanted is an amazing, full throtte, nitrous fuelled thrill ride. The pinnacle of arcade racers and has some of the best online intergration for a game of its genre. Spent alot of time with the equally awesome Vita version of the game last year and cannot wait to give its big brother a spin round Fairview.

Mafia II

Whilst Mafia II is showing its age now, it is still one of the finest gangster games ever made. Following the life of ex soldier, Vito Scaletta.  who returns from the war and gets mixed up with local small criminal and best friend, Joe Barbaro. Before long, they are part of the mob and you can guess where the story goes from there. Mafia II is great diversion from the fast paced worlds of GTA and Saints Row. It's closest to Goodfellas you will ever get in  a video game.

Spec Ops: The Line

Spec Ops: The Line is one of those games that has been high on my "must get round to playing one day" list for a while now. Everyone I know who has played this game raves on about how good it is and it is not just another mindless shooter. Moral choices will plague you as you guide Captain Martin Walker through a half buried Dubai hunting for a renegade US Colonel (the game is inspired by Heart of Darkness). From everything I have heard about this game, if you haven't played it yet, you should

Not a bad month again for PS3 owners and lets not forget the lucky Vita owners out there too. This month you can expect 2 new titles to join the instant game collection.

Lego: The Lord of the Rings

Right, lets get this out of the way. The Lego series has not been ported very well to the Vita so far. Opting to port the inferior 3DS versions to the powerful handheld rather than downgrading the console versions. Luckily though, Lego LOTR is the best of the bunch and is still a fantastic game to play in its own right.

When Vikings Attack

When Vikings Attack is the first game developed by UK firm Clever Beans and features a battalion of Viking warriors who have invaded your town, 1000 years late! Its your job to rally the citizens and defeat the Viking horde by throwing objects left around town at them. It's a cross buy title as well, so when you get the Vita version you can actually get the PS3 version as well. Double bargain.

See you next month to find out i) if I actually played any of these games and ii) what we can expect in September.
