Playstation Plus - April Update

It's that time again, once again its time for you lucky PlayStation Plus subscribers to find out what goodies you can download in April. This month is adventure month as it sees some of the best adventure games from the last generation, the current generation and the indie set.

It all kicks off this week on Wednesday 3rd April for PS3 owners with the release three new games on to the instant game collection. Starting off with the Clover Studio's Capcom classic, Okami, now remastered in glorious High Definition. Players get to control the sun goddess, Amaterasu, who has taken the form of a white wolf. She has done this to help in the fight against the eight headed demon, Orochi. The demon has escaped its sealed prison and has been sucking the life out of all living things via a powerful curse.

If you have never experienced the original classic on the PS2, now is a great opportunity to play one of the PS2's greatest and most beautiful games.

Next up , is a Lord of the Rings tie-in, that is based on the book licence and not the film licence. War in the North follows the adventures of three heroes, Farin the dwarf,  Eradan the human ranger and Andriel the elf mage. Their journey takes across Middle-Earth in a journey similar to the Fellowships, as they try to help in the war against Sauron. During the course of this quest you will visit locations familiar to fans of Peter Jackson's films and also places only seen in the novels like the Ettenmoors, Fornost, Mirkwood and Mount Gundabad.

Play sole or co-operatively this is a great little adventure in the realm of Middle-Earth.

Finally, for PS3 owners the very recent game, The Cave comes to PlayStation Plus. Created by video game royalty, Ron Gilbert, creator of the Monkey Island series and Maniac Mansion. The Cave is a game about a mystical cave which draws people to it to explore is mysteries. Selecting 3 out of a possible characters at the start of the game. It will require several playthroughs to unlock all of the puzzles and mysteries of the cave.

Featuring all the of the charm and humour that you would associate with a Double Fine and Ron Gilbert game. It finishes off another great month for the Playstation Plus service.

Vita owners have to wait an extra week for some goodies. The wait is worth it as this month sees 2 amazing games arrive on the handheld system. First up is Zero Escape; Virtue's Last Reward, the hit adventure game from Japan. The game is a sequel to 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and keeps to the same style of play. Nine people find themselves thrown together in a game know as the Nonary Game. They all have been given a bracelet which keeps a tally of the BP (Bracelet Points). These Points are awarded for cooperating or betraying their fellow contestants. A player is allowed to leave the warehouse if only they possess nine or more BP; however, if a player's BP reach zero, they are killed.

Gameplay takes the form of both a visual novel for interacting with characters and making storyline choices and a more interactive puzzle mode used for escaping from a room. This is already one of the Vita's best gems and a game that has missed alot of people upon its original release.

Finally, the Vita gets Thomas was Alone. An indie platform game that features the narration of Danny Wallace. Don't let that put you off though. Taking place in a computer mainframe, the player takes control of several different shaped polygons, that represent individual segments of the machines AI. Each of the rogue AI segments have adopted a name and personality.

I do not know much about from this game, But from the trailer below. I can say it looks beautiful and possibly the most poignant use of coloured squares since the Intellivision days.

So another cracking month and I know I ban on about this, but if you are not a subscriber of PlayStation Plus and own both a PS3 and a Vita, what are you waiting for! £39.99 for 60 games a year and loads extra benefits as well. It really is a no brainer.

So just to round up what is leaving and joining the service.
