Enjoy the Silence

Been quiet round here hasn't it. I know and that's because I have been in gaming heaven. Not only am I playing the amazing Gravity Rush on the Vita, but also the crazy Lollipop Chainsaw, the awesome Lego Batman 2 and then there's the Metal Gear Solid collection on the Vita too.

Usually Summer is a gaming drought, but this year has brought a downpour of excellent summer games. Thank goodness then that July is a little quieter. It gives me a chance to catch up. Meanwhile, expect over reviews of Lollipop Chainsaw,  Lego Batman 2, MGS HD Vita and our take on Minecraft Xbox 360 edition.

Out This Week - The Girls are back in Town

This week we are treated to two brand new heroines with their new Video Games.

First, up its Lollipop Chainsaw. Arriving this Friday on PS3 and Xbox 360. Lollipop Chainsaw focuses on cheerleader Juliet Starling, who fights hordes of zombies in San Romero High School, which Starling formerly attended. She carries with her the severed, yet still living, head of her boyfriend Nick, whom she decapitated after he suffered a zombie bite. The zombies are led by "a group of zombie rock and roll lords" who were former high school students who were turned into intelligent zombies.
In the game, Juliet has light attacks, which are kicks and punches, and heavy attacks which use her chainsaw. Light attacks are intended to herd enemy zombies together so that Juliet can finish them off all at once with heavy attacks. Killing enemies and saving classmates that are being attacked by zombies will fill up Juliet's star meter, which is used for super sparkle attacks.

Its basically the Power Puff Girls crossed with Day of the Dead.

Lollipop Chainsaw is out on this Friday on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Next we have the title that most PS Vita owners have been waiting for, Gravity Rush. Already avaliable in Japan as Gravity Daze, it has seen very postive reviews and has been hailed as the first AAA original title for Sony's new handheld.

The game is set in the fictitious, floating town of Hekseville. The story begins by introducing a girl called Kat, who has lost her memory. She then runs into a mysterious black cat that gives her the power to control gravity. Kat will use this ability in order to protect people from the threat of a Gravity Storm and the monsters that have appeared along with it.

Move The World Around You : Manipulate gravity to help you move around, shifting your perspective and enhancing your actions to complete dozens of missions spanning several worlds.

Full Motion Control : Use the PlayStation®Vita System gyro sensor to control gravity. Use the front and back panels to quickly react to shifting surroundings and dodge enemy attacks.

If you cannot wait until Friday for this beautiful game, then why not try the demo on the PS Store.

Gravity Rush is out on this Friday both via retail chains and digitally through the PlayStation Store.

Lollipop Chainsaw brings the style... and zombie cheerleaders!

Like most teenage High School girls, Juliet Starling cares about three things in the world: her boyfriend Nick, sporting a spicy wardrobe with the freshest styles in school and keeping her trusty chainsaw running while she obliterates the zombie onslaught.

In Lollipop Chainsaw, Juliet will, of course, be in her signature cheerleader get-up, but a girl can never have too many outfits in her closet.  All of these threads are included in the full retail version of Lollipop Chainsaw for free and can be unlocked throughout the campaign. An interesting move from a Japanese developer at the moment. It sounds like on disc DLC, it looks like on disc DLC, but it is in the game for free! Incredible!

The list of costumes Juliet can wear are:
  • Sexy American Casual – This sexy get-up leaves little to the imagination
  • American Cheerleader Costume – Show ‘em how much you love freedom in this cheer outfit
  • Purple Pride Uniform – Visiting team alternate uniform
  • Date Night Outfit – Great for a date with your body less soul mate
  • Bunny Costume – Juliet’s bunny doll is slightly worse for wear
  • Crash Helmet – Approved by the Department of Transportation
  • Cordelia’s Costume – Calm, cool, collected - Cordelia’s killer style
  • Rosalind’s Costume – Rosalind’s slickest outfit on-lend to Juliet - Dry clean only
  • Dad’s Costume – Expert zombie hunter lounge wear
  • Mom’s Costume – Sexy MILF clothes straight from Mom’s closet
  • Japanese Maid Costume – Cleaning up a zombie mess has never been more appropriate
  • Sexy Rider Suit – Pink leather jumpsuit with a strategically placed zipper
  • Busujima Saeko Costume – Busujima Saeko’s costume from High School of the Dead
  • Haruna Costume – Haruna from Is This a Zombie?
  • Shiro Costume – Shiro’s costume from Deadman Wonderland
  • Manyu Chifusa Costume – Samurai costume from Manyu Scroll
  • Miyamoto Rei Costume – Miyamoto Rei’s costume from High School of the Dead
  • Striped Bikini – A beach staple, perfect for those hot summer days
  • Sexy Seashell Bikini – Mermaids got nothing on Juliet

Also, the San Romero Knights zombie cheerleaders will invade the MCM Expo, Excel, London, on Saturday, 26th May 2012.

The Lollipop Chainsaw living dead will be set loose at the UK’s largest cosplay event, performing blood-chilling routines, cheers and chants. Each routine has been meticulously choreographed and will include:

-          The Bone Crushing Split Lift
-          The Ravenous Thigh Stand
-          The Zombie Apocalypse Kickline
-          The Brutal Infection Shoulder Stand

The fierce flesh-eating squad will perform in front of thousands of fans at the entrance of the MCM Expo and on the show floor.

Don't know about you guys, but reminds me of the last time I went to the local nightclub.

Lollipop Chainsaw - Behind the Lollipop-alypse

If there is one thing missing from the video game world is a zombie game with a cheerleading slant. I mean sure, I can play Dead Rising or Left 4 Dead for a zombie fix and a quick go on Let's Cheer for Kinect covers the other side of things. Yet no-one has every thought of bringing these two things together.

Until Now!

Lollipop Chainsaw is the latest game from Japanese gaming legend Suda51, the man behind such greats as Killer7, No More Heroes and the criminally under-rated Shadows of the Damned. He has teamed up with Hollywood writer James Gunn (Dawn of the Dead; Slither; Super) to create Lollipop Chainsaw, a high school Romeo & Juliet, with zombies and chainsaws.

The game follows story of sweet but killer zombie-hunter Juliet Starling and her quest to uncover the root of a colossal zombie outbreak. With her wickedly awesome chainsaw in hand, Juliet slices, dices and splits her way through hordes of the undead, but soon realizes the horde is only the opening act to a festival of zombie rock lords determined to kill the chainsaw-wielding cheerleader. She is joined on her quest by the severed head of her High School boyfriend, Nick.

The team behind the game wants to make a funny zombie game, where the blood and violence aren't centre of attention. Instead, when Juliet beheads a zombie expect to see a fountain of neon love hearts. Split a zombie open and get treated to a dazzling rainbow.

To be honest it sounds like a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and one of the cutesy kids cartoons featuring some kind of magical animal that loves sunshine and rainbows.... with zombies.

Can't go wrong them can they!

Lollipop Chainsaw is available on June 15th,  The game will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
